Meet the MSF Southern Africa team
Dr. Perseverance Chikide
Dr. Perseverance Chikide

President, Board of Directors

Dr. Perseverance Chikide is a Board Member of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Southern Africa and a medical doctor and public health professional with over six years of experience spanning humanitarian clinical work, clinical research, monitoring and evaluation, and strategic health programming. He holds a medical degree, an MSc in Big Data Analytics, and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health while completing a course at the MSF UK Academy in Global Health and Humanitarian Medicine.

From 2024 to 2025, Dr. Chikide worked with MSF as a Medical Doctor, providing frontline clinical care and contributing to programme data analysis, reporting, and implementation. He currently serves as Lead Consultant for a national monitoring and evaluation project at Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care, where he leads a process evaluation of the Impilo Electronic Health Record system. In parallel, he is a Clinical Scientist at the Africa Clinical Research Network, overseeing multiple multi-country research studie
 

Feristus Mbumba Lyson
Feristus Mbumba Lyson

Vice President

Feristus Mbumba Lyson is a Board Member of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Southern Africa and a dynamic community development practitioner with expertise in project management, gender and youth empowerment, health systems strengthening, and community resilience. She holds a Master of Science in Management Studies (Health Systems Management) from the Malawi School of Government and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Cultural Studies from the University of Malawi.

Over the past decade, she has led and coordinated donor-funded programmes with organisations including Emmanuel International and Angaliba Foundation. Most recently, she served as District Coordinator for the Global Affairs Canada-funded Titukule Azimai (Empower Women Project), where she established sexual and gender-based violence response structures and facilitated multi-sectoral collaboration.

Previously, as Project Integration Officer for the USAID-funded Titukulane Resilience Food Security Activity, she championed integrated programming across health, WASH, disaster risk management, and livelihoods, strengthening resilience in vulnerable communities.

Qhubekani Mpala
Qhubekani Mpala

Secretary

Qhubekani Mpala is a Board Member of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Southern Africa and a public health and healthcare professional with over 15 years of experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mpilo School of Nursing in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health. He also holds several additional certifications in clinical health and project management.

He currently serves as Country Programs Manager for Infectious Diseases at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) in Eswatini. Between 2013 and 2019, Qhubekani worked with MSF Operational Centre Geneva (OCG) as a Research Assistant on the Eswatini TB/HIV Project, where he developed a strong understanding of MSF’s charter and values.

His work is driven by a commitment to improving health outcomes for underserved communities and amplifying the voices of those most affected by inequality.

Yeukai Mashingaidze
Yeukai Mashingaidze

Treasurer, Board of Directors

Yeukai Mashingaidze is the Treasurer of the Board of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Southern Africa and a seasoned finance and operations professional with over 15 years of financial experience and 11 years in senior management roles at country and project levels. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, a Master’s degree in Business Intelligence, and is a certified Programme Management Professional.

She spent nearly six years with MSF Belgium in Zimbabwe, serving as Deputy Finance Coordinator and later Finance Coordinator from 2012 to 2018. During this time, she provided financial oversight across projects in HIV/TB, sexual and gender-based violence, non-communicable diseases, WASH, and reproductive health, gaining a strong health programming perspective.

Yeukai is currently Finance and Operations Manager for the Pathways Project under Catholic Relief Services, which operates across nine districts and reaches approximately 250,000 people. She is deeply committed to strong compliance, effective financial controls, and ensuring donor funding delivers meaningful impact in humanitarian settings.

Spencer Botolo
Spencer Botolo

Board Member

Spencer Botolo is a Malawian medical and humanitarian professional and a Board Member of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Southern Africa, with over 12 years of experience across clinical care, health systems, and humanitarian operations. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Humanitarian Action, a Bachelor’s degree in Health Systems Management, and a Diploma and Certificate in Clinical Medicine. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Healthcare Management at Unicaf University in Zambia.

Spencer currently works as a Site Clinical Coordinator with the USA PEPFAR/CDC-funded Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) Malawi HIV Epidemic Control Project in Blantyre. His previous experience includes roles with MSF France and MSF Belgium, as well as Nkhoma Mission Hospital and St Gabriel’s Hospital, where he served in various clinical, coordination, and management capacities.
 

Nkanyiso Gambu
Nkanyiso Gambu

International General Assembly (IGA) Representative

Nkanyiso Gambu serves as the International General Assembly (IGA) Representative for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Southern Africa. He is a highly skilled professional nurse with over 18 years of experience spanning clinical care, research, training, and programme coordination. His roles have included Programme Officer, Nurse Tutor and Lecturer, Project Coordinator, Nursing Activities Manager, and Prescribing Nurse Practitioner.

He holds a BSc Honours in Nursing Science and a Master of Public Health, in addition to several certificates related to humanitarian medical practice. Nkanyiso has a strong interest in emergency response and research and is currently working with the Eswatini Ministry of Health on the COVID-19 emergency response.
