Face to Face - Awareness and Fundraising

MSF South Africa are currently represented by teams of canvassers in streets and malls in three cities; Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. With branded banners, t-shirts and a lot of knowledge about the organisation, the canvassers approach and speak to members of the public.

Brett Sandler, Teamleader for the MSF Face to Face (F2F) Fundraising team in Pretoria, talks about what it means to him to be part of MSF's F2F team:

Sustainable donations play a vital role in allowing Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) to deliver emergency medical care to the most vulnerable and neglected populations in more than 60 countries around the world. Sustainable support from private donors ensures that MSF can respond to medical emergencies in a swift and independent manner.

Face-To-Face (F2F) fundraising is an important resource mobilisation and awareness raising channel for MSF South Africa and, as of 2013, comprised our largest source of fundraising revenue.

I started F2F fundraising in October 2011 and have been fortunate to travel around the country with teams collecting monthly donations. I speak to diverse individuals about the importance of MSF’s work, including our projects in South Africa, and ask them for support. F2F fundraising can be challenging, but it is always rewarding. The overwhelming response is positive. Donors share a solidarity based on humanitarianism and support MSF’s global drive to respond to the most pressing medical emergencies.

Personally, F2F fundraising is extremely fulfilling. It allows me to share information about humanitarian activities and provide regular South Africans with the opportunity to make a positive difference by supporting MSF’s life-changing work.
