Borno State, Nigeria: Monitoring malnutrition on a mobile phone
44 teams visited households in vulnerable neighbourhoods, to gather health measurements and data on a smartphone. The team then referred malnourished children to MSF’s nutrition centres for medical care, and arranged follow up food distribution in neighbourhoods with a high number of cases.
The survey allowed MSF access to live data, so we could monitor malnutrition and see how rates were changing over time.
The good news is that rates of malnutrition have now stabalised, thanks to a massive deployment of aid, so whilst the survey has finished, our medical humanitarian programmes in Maiduguri and elsewhere in Borno State are continuing.
