Contact tracing happens in the very early stages of an epidemic response. It is a reactive and immediate activity that involves seeking out people who have had contact with a virus or so that we can test and monitor them for signs of illness.
Bhelekazi Mdlalose is a forensic nurse who has been working with MSF in Rustenburg responding to survivors and victims of sexual and gender-based violence. At the start of the COVID-19 outbreak in South Africa, she joined other MSF fieldworkers to support the South African Department of Health with COVID-19 contact tracing.
