Our Work
Where We Work
MSF Works in more than 70 countries around the world, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) saves lives by providing medical aid where it is needed most - in armed conflicts, epidemics, natural disasters, and other crisis situations.
Our Programmes
Projects in Southern Africa
Over the past decades MSF has and continues to run projects in Southern African countries, including eSwatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe. These projects have focused primarily on HIV/TB, healthcare for mobile and migrant populations, and sexual and gender-based violence.

Mozambique
In Mozambique we are responding to emergencies including disease outbreaks, and providing care to people with advanced HIV, while also working in the conflict-ridden Cabo-Delgado province.

Zimbabwe
Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in Zimbabwe continues to address healthcare gaps, focusing on adolescent sexual and reproductive health, support for migrants and deportees, and responding to disease outbreaks.

Eswatini (formerly Swaziland)
In Eswatini, the COVID-19 pandemic severely affected the lives of patients with HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in 2020.

Malawi
In Malawi, MSF continues to run programmes to improve care for people living with HIV, the leading cause of death in the country, and for women with cervical cancer.

Lesotho
After nearly a decade in Lesotho, MSF handed its projects to the government in 2015.
How We Are Run
We are a global network owned and run by our staff, past and present. Collectively, we make sure that MSF stays true to its mission and principles. At any given time, this network has tens of thousands of members. Members of the MSF network bring their professional experience and knowledge to respond quickly and with great impact when they are needed, working in MSF projects in more than 70 countries.
Our supporters are a vital part of the network - their generosity and support helps fund everything we do. This allows us to stay independent, neutral and impartial - and to access those in greatest need quickly.
Emergencies
Your donation allows us to respond quickly to emergency situations around the world.
When an emergency strikes, every second counts. The ability to deploy resources quickly means we’re able to implement more effective strategies and provide medical attention to people before the emergency escalates.

KZN Floods Emergency Response
Crisis Response
Since 1971, MSF has cared for millions of people caught up in a crisis. We go where the need is greatest, be it a natural disaster, a war, an exodus of refugees or to help people excluded from healthcare.
With your help, we run hospitals and clinics, perform surgeries, battle epidemics, carry out vaccination campaigns, operate feeding centres and offer mental healthcare.
Medical Issues
We work to help the people in greatest need, wherever they are. Our medical teams carry out more than eight million patient consultations a year and our medical activities run from basic vaccination campaigns to complex surgery.
Our emergency medical work extends to neglected, forgotten diseases and long-term care for chronic conditions. We also advocate for affordable, high-quality medicines for the world's poorest people.
